Who are McDOOT?

DOOT is a Sheffield-based baritone saxophone and bass clarinet duo made up of Kirsten Beveridge and Henry McNamara. They specialise in low woodwinds, and their aim is to promote new works specifically for their unusual ensemble. Formed in late 2023, the duo has already commissioned and premiered multiple new works, led an outreach performance project in local schools, and performed in a variety of Sheffield venues such as the Dorothy Pax, Firth Hall, and Sheffield Cathedral. In January 2025, they were invited to premiere a programme of three commissions from composers connected to Yorkshire, funded in part by CASSGB and the Finzi Trust, at Low Clarinet Fest 2025 in Glendale, Arizona.

Kirsten and Brodie met whilst studying together at the University of Aberdeen; the three musicians have teamed up to form McDOOT, a trio with unique instrumentation and endless sound possibilities.

McDOOT was formed in 2025 with their first set of school workshops and small Scottish tour performing in Oldmeldrum (Meldrum Academy), Aberdeen (The Blue Lamp) and Edinburgh (Pianodrome Granton).

The trio has already commissioned 2 works for their 2025 tour: Crowded in A Lonely Room by Brodie McCash and Theme And Phase Variations by Tim Tricker.

For their 2026 tour stops will include Aberdeen (Encore), Edinburgh (Pianodrome Bruntsfield) and potentially a Glasgow stop also and looking into a programme including new commissions and arrangements once more.
